you could probably build around the n + 2 with that in mind. once you have the n + 2 i wouldn’t be overwhelmingly surprised if n + 1 and n fell into place (though it’s probably not guaranteed, blah blah blah)

nyaaa the intuition was “well if I could find a perfect square, then the next number is free, so I just need perfect squares where one minus that also works” → try cases → started trying for each n to see if (n-1)^2 + ? = n^2 gives me a perfect square → make formula and see ? = 2(n-1), so if (n-1) is 2 times a perfect square, then it should work probably → simplify things
