I disagree. Thieves cant was a real language that real people used in their daily lives. It has since died due to it’s popularity with institutes that wish for thieves to stop theiving.
toki pona is a real language, with real people who communicate in toki pona, whether by speech, sitelen Inli or sitelen pona. The only reason, in my mind, that one would not speak toki pona in the real world is that they know no-one else who speaks it too.

And, yeah, there is value in knowing toki pona, even if it’s not spoken as a first language, whether that’s because it’s so quick to learn and lets you get used to translating things back and forth, because its simple vocabulary forces one to break down things into much simpler ideas and think about what’s really important to express in your speech (words don’t carry nearly as many connotations, you have to explain what you mean to say it, which is a good exercise - some therapists actually recommend journaling in it for this reason), because it’s fun to talk with friends or with dedicated communities in it, that kind of thing.

… and, to be fair, I do literally play a game which is just collaborative competitive accounting. I have sunk huge amounts of time into My Appointed Position (which I filled out a job application for) Organizing my Group of Accountants. I don’t really have an answer for the question “why not just do something actually productive”, but I do know why I find these things fun: Autism Momence
