Immersion for me id say. I enjoyed everything more as a kid and id say kids are more easily immersed in stuff. As for mafia i like imagining the situation like an ace attorney trial

what makes a game immersive

I cant quantify that neatly sorry. From a game designer pov

My user experience is: “i just feel it or i dont”

Ive heard that generally gamers easily find bugs and problems in games. But when it comes to ideas / proactively designing stuff gamers generally struggle to provide good ideas for designers. Like they dont know what they want. (They do but they cant logically quantify it)

(Just something ive heard, dont let it discourage u)

i like feeling like i have autonomy and control (obviously for mafia you can’t make this the case for every player or else the setup will be woefully broken, but you can make them feel like they have control)
