IIRC in 5e parties with a paladin are much, much more powerful because of Aura of Protection. Which is a weird specific thing to make them powerful, but having just +5 to saving throws is huge late game (for most parties).

while i go and write a book about some dead kingdom and unearth the sword of the king of said dead kingdom
only for me to FUCKING DIE and then have that book be used as propaganda
and then the detective backup character I created comes in immediately after the biggest mystery gets solved
and then the campaign gets canned
I have attempted to isekai that detective backup character several times, each time to no avail
