I’ve found I can’t actually do the game processing on Google Sheets because occasionally the API returns an old version of the sheet instead of the current one and this makes the whole “write values to sheet, get sheet to process, grab results from sheet” workflow not work at all. So I have to do everything in Python and only the game setup controls are in Sheets. BORING. I wanted to make evil evil google sheets that can run complicated mafia games

Nope. Excel is worse than just doing it normal in Python. I only love Google Sheets

i think the api returning an old version of the sheet is just. an issue with the cloud
but yeah
Specifically, the thing I like about doing stuff in Sheets is that it allows other people who are not me to easily update any of the setup values for the bot - all I have to do is run the thing. So if in the future other people want to run Maybot games I can send them the Sheets file for them to customise to their heart’s content without needing any technical knowledge/having to download something

Having everything be in Sheets allows other people who are not me to also fix the bot if it’s messed up somewhere: the original Sheets version of it allowed you to change phase start and end times, modify the EoD results, that kind of thing. That has unfortunately been lost. It wasn’t actually that useful in practice but I liked it
