My understanding is that the key differences are that America failed to cede from the British empire, but later in Europe the monarchy was forced into exile by the French and began ruling from America, moving their capital to DC.

I remember I opened Netflix one day, and it was like, “Hey, Ash, you remember Code Geass?”
And I was like, “Yeah, I remember that show; I binge-watched more than a dozen episodes in a day and really enjoyed it. It’s been a couple weeks since I saw it. I should continue watching it.”
And Netflix went, “Totally, totally; here it is. Though by two weeks, you must mean two years.”
