I think hte thing that makes me complain about this so much is that, like, they clearly expect me to be impressed. And to like it. And it’s an insult to my aesthetic sense
he did still frame it as a “the TOP GOAL is autonomy” and i pointed out like. “the top goal is obviously not autonomy, if it was then there would be no limited guardianship in the first place.” and he was like “well the top goal is protection” (i actually said it might be and he went with it but yea)
Dunno, seems pretty explicitly like a mechanism of control. It’s likely that he genuinely does think of it as protecting you, but his version of protecting you likely also includes not allowing you to transition. More than anything it shows that he doesn’t trust that you’re capable of making meaningful decisions for yourself. This is funny coming from someone who probably gives a not insignificant portion of their income to the Mormon church.

There’s a quote I think about a lot, and it was like “if you love someone, you have to let them have the dignity to make their own mistakes.” You can tell them what you think, but there comes a point where the only thing there is for you to do is let it play out.
