i can assure you that is not what his intention is. parents arent evil, they are just old and sometimes very stupid. if you assume bad faith, which is not there, then thats just going to erode any chance of actually restyoring a good relationship between you and your parents. they aren’t evil

Real quick: he could be doing what she described. What Eliza is describing is similar a manipulator’s behavior. It’s in line with being invasive and controlling access to the outside world. I’m not saying he’s absolutely being a manipulator here because I don’t want to create further divisions, but I don’t know enough to tell her that’s definitely not what’s happening either.
