True….

Well, no. That’s a reductive interpretation. “Seize the means of production” in the context of Marx is when the proletariat revolts against the bourgeoisie and necessarily destroys the current government to replace it with a new one. A big part is that capitalist democracy is a perpetually a democracy for the minority, the ruling class, and the proletariat can only choose who represses them in parliament. It’s a lack of faith in the entire system, and, in Marx’s view, the proletariat revolution under capitalism is both inevitable and necessary to create an equitable democratic system.

When it’s used contemporaneously, it takes on a more general meaning of labor taking power away from the owner class. Like creating a worker cooperative is “seizing the means of production”.

I think capitalism makes a lot more sense when the economy isn’t industrialized and is far more localized. The local money supply is low and its velocity is high. Unfortunately this system is highly unstable when it comes to disruptions, and if an individual or small number of cooperative individuals amass a ton of money, they can use that disparity to take over the system. Once power begins to centralize, the flow pretty much stays that way almost forever until either there’s some kind of revolt or a more powerful entity steps in.

The office of the president in the US is an example as it’s only gotten increasingly powerful over the years. The president controls nukes now. Congress is the only branch that can declare war but the last time Congress declared war was 1942, and the president has ordered the military to do more and more with less and less explicit congressional approval.

Yeah
I do strongly believe in democracy
And I do believe a lot of socialist things (e.g. abolition of for-profitness, at least in certain industries known for exploiting shit and such (specifically the media and the energy business)) (maybe not like, nationalization ESPECIALLY for the media but like. It would be better if these things were in the pursuit of helping people or exposing the truth or. A lot of things that aren’t “only profit all day every day”)
And I don’t think Most socialists, myself included are arguing for Soviet Union communism because it heavily involved authoritarianism, which is a Very Big Problem for the people that we’re supposed to be freeing
I think that a good democracy is absolutely necessary for socialist systems to Work properly. If, indeed, they can work at all (something I’m dubious on, but lean towards “yes” but still don’t have enough info for. I still believe in a lot of the ideals and principles but yeah)

Also no-regulations or loose-regulations capitalism Fucking Sucks, and is killing the planet. That’s a different subject though.
