FAM2 Game Thread 4 - Day 5 - The Mafia (and Italy) have won!

having played a handful of 12/12s, this was much more manageable for me in terms of pacing and allowed me to actually step away from the thread for periods of time. i of course only was alive one day phase but having actual time off from the thread between days gave room to breathe rather than being stuck on the game - in 12/12 games everyone just seems like they hate themselves by the end of it because they’re stuck in the game thread for days on end.

i think it maybe did hamper communication/coordination a bit but also people in different time zones or with different schedules were able to post at reasonable times

middle point isn’t really true? if you look at recent comparable sized mashes on MU their day 1s end up with roughly the same amount of posts, around the 6k range. maybe it’s a site culture thing where a lot of the players here were less high intensity (thank god) but I suspect it’s a case where not everyone is posting at the same time so you don’t get the feedback effect where people treat the game like a chatroom

and for the last point…should that be part of it? to an extent i think in these mech heavy high player count games allowing too much time for analysis gives town an advantage, but at the same time why on earth should “feeling like you can’t catch your breath” be part of the experience?

the middle point was me just speculating but in hindsight it probably makes sense that people take their time with longer phases, but we don’t really know since the site/culture is also different

last point i don’t disagree it would be better if you could catch your breath but i wouldn’t really consider it a turn off for a mash when that’s how most mashes go

Cause people don’t really try and push strong players hard enough cause they think they would lose the 1v1.

Oh crap I thought this game was less then a month ago sorry for the necrobump.

Damn time sure does fly bye.
