King of the Castle 2: Litten is King: Game Thread (GAME CANNED)

“I think offering small sums of money for confessions, while also spreading misinformation, is the best of both worlds…hmm”

“I’ll ask my spymaster and advisors if such an operation is logically feasiable (spreading misinformation to find the sources).”

Augustin tilts his head.

“I do not understand. Can we not just monitor the border with Tallivain to make sure they don’t send any spies over?”

“What does that do if there are already spies here?”

“Unfortunately it isn’t that simple. Not only do they seem to have spies already here, but they’re very close to Ashmede. We cannot risk an incursion with the Ashmedeans at this moment”

“I’m getting word from my spymaster that it is likely that such a plan would fail. It seems we are in a pickle somewhat.”

“Your lordship, am I wrong in believing the spies need to return to their homeland eventually?”

(augustin is trying his best. unfortunately, his best is quite bad)

“I believe Augustin has a good idea. If we were to focus on the border, we could catch spies before they have a chance to take root in our military and we could learn more about any spy networks by interrogating suspicious people.”

(I tried to ask Eliza about every other option we suggested and was told it was all bad)

Communication is a powerful concept. Long story short: That does not work. For starters, monitoring alone is insufficient to prevent spies from directly crossing the border. The Military has to be involved as well.

The main issues I can think of with this idea are:

(1) Spies do not have to travel through this border to reach their destination.

Imagine you want to go to a place 10 steps forward. However, there is a wall in front of you. What will you do then? Naturally, you would “go around the wall”. The same applies to the spies. If you wish to monitor one border, then you have to monitor all borders.

(2) Spies do not have to travel at all.

How does one human with another human? The common answers are “talking” and “writing”. However, it isn’t as if humanity hasn’t developed more ways of communication. It’s simply the case that talking and writing are the most efficient ones. One way of transporting “a message” is via messenger birds. Another way involves reading smoke patterns. Another way involves flashing lights in the night by covering and revealing light sources.

Preventing communication between the spies and their home countries will be an arduous task. Which is why it is more realistic to approach this issue with the assumption that the spies will always be able to succeed. The only difference we can make is to decrease the amount of information being leaked.

Which plan would fail?

(Spreading misinformation, low chance of success, even if we try to bait spies)

“Oh, like Wilhelm!”
