But the self-appraisal of the pizza topping isn’t an estimate of skill, it’s one of character, which is still inaccurate, but in a different, more interesting way. You get to know that Arctic sees himself as bland like spinach, or that nuto sees themself as unconventional like mashed potatoes. It’s informative of self-perception, which is in turn informative of someone’s mindset. Quite useful to understand if you’re playing mafia.

Well now you’re just trying too hard to come across as verbose, in order to bespeak how well-learned you surely are. Discussing the peculiars of self-appraisal and its quirks, by which I mean strengths and weaknesses; benefits and drawbacks; upsides and downsides, was not my intention as it was a mere example intended to illustrate my point that self-analysis can be and has been done, many times over. I would be interested in knowing how you managed to slot in your mention regarding a certain reversal of fortune, that being a so-called “calamity”, when that word doesn’t seem to take kindly to your passage, but I digress. May is correct but I do not need to support his points with arguments of my own, she’s more than capable on their own.

Someone who sees themself as unconventional will play significantly differently than someone who sees themself as bland or by-the-book, though the effect of this perception isn’t necessarily one-to-one with reality - these players will often make roughly the same plays, but present them in different ways.

Confidence is a big one. I’ve won games off people underestimating my confidence that I can do whatever I want whenever I want. Sad. If only they’d known I see myself as fresh basil, then they would’ve understood the deep and true wolf logic behind the inexplicable hammer.

strictly speaking, just because your reported self-appraisal is inaccurate doesn’t necessarily mean your self-appraisal is inaccurate. you could have a very accurate assessment of yourself and just be lying.

When you ask someone to estimate their own skill in something, they’re usually wrong, so it’s better to have someone else observe 'em. Sometimes it’s unavoidable, though, so self-reporting is the best option, but it’s never going to be more accurate than an outside observer.
