Leftists and liberals are ~about the same from my experience
Liberals are left of center in American politics, but America is righter than a lot of Europe. So, yeah liberals are left on social issues mostly but economically center-right in Europe. Leftists broadly refer to much more progressive beliefs, and are meaningfully to left of liberals and would be considered on the left in Europe as well.
Granted our politics are so full of buzzwords at this point its probably different than reality lmao

Liberal more generally means someone who supports individual rights, democracy, and capitalism. Both American Liberals and Conservatives are liberal. Leftists tend to be less liberal in support of capitalism.
