Word Match 4: Thesaurus Sadism Edition - "All According to Keikaku" Wins

well I was the first line of defence, like there were queries in host chat but I was usually the one to ask people why they sent in what they sent, also because I was processing like more than half of submissions myself

im ngl i specifically avoided some words (like rivers cuomo and burn book) because if they resulted in a match there would be host salt over a win being unfair even tho imo it wouldnt be

kinda sandbagged for my team lol

anyway i thought it was fun altho i do think i probably tried too hard to link all three words instead of just taking the “two words match well so ignore the third” route lol

yea i had fun too i actually did really enjoy myself a lot this game tbh - going from being the person who messed up 50000000000 times to being the one person on the team who didnt mess up was really funny
just a few frustrating things apologies for the vent

yh i did that too. it is annoying when we both think it tho cuz that in itself is kinda proof that its not “playing the system” and is just what we think

I think wordmatch is best when it’s kind of. Treated in good faith by all parties? You can game the system by saying the same thing every time or making a silent agreement to match in X words or whatever. It’s trivially easy. I think the players have to have the integrity to not do that and I think the hosts have to trust the players to not do that

i think solution is cleear: hosts never or only in extreme cases deny words

question is if you want to have some kind of mechanic baked in to disincentivize “playing the system” or if you just want to not care and instead say fuck it, let the system be played

this is what i said
and to be honest i should have clarified better, we probably wouldn’t have denied anything gay related if it came up so long as the progression was natural - i kinda meant specifically “LGBT” coming up in both rounds previously, so if it came up again then it would have been questionable

I think some degree of playing the system is literally fine. It doesn’t always work. I think any system to mechanically disincentivise playing the system would go against the design philosophies of

If you want to just name robotics competitions until you match then try it. If you want to just name synonyms of wet then try it. It fucks oyu up just as often as you win. In previous wordmatches there was plenty of stupid shit to try to get a match. Remember “or”. “Or”. Fucking “or”

yahr thats fair. i wouldnt have suggested that if ppl didnt think it was a problem. which it kinda seems like nobody does

In general, like, wordmatch is not a game with. High. Competitive integrity. And the more you treat it like it’s gotta have competitive integrity, the less it has, IMO

yeah i also dont get why i was told that “this word sounds like another word and relates to to the other 2” is disallowd as a reason when i feel like that fully does just have merit

spirit of the game is just people matching silly words for any reason its what i was going for when i made it

I denied 0 words last wordmatch for “invalid matches” (only for being already said) and it went literally fine and nobody complained
