Blackjack Misc (7/7) - Round 5

Welcome to Blackjack Misc!

The setup will start once at least 7 players have signed up, or when the dealer decides.

Gameplay

Starting from the first slot, the dealer gives a card to every player faceup.
They then deal themselves a card, faceup.
These two steps are then repeated with one difference - the dealer’s second card is facedown.
Players then, in order of seat number, have four actions: hitting, standing, doubling or splitting.

  • To hit means to draw another card from the deck to add to your total.
  • To stand means to remain with your current hand and end your turn.
  • To double means to double your bet, hit and then stand.
  • Players may split natural pairs. Splitting means you seperate your two starting cards into two hands, double your bet and then play both hands. Your bets are seperate.
  • Eight decks will be in play, and will be shuffled after 50% of the 8 decks have been drawn.
  • You may pre-queue actions.
  • Optimal strategy based on mathematics (without considering card counting) is referred to as “basic (strategy)”. Casinos allow players (and even the dealer!) to advise players on what the best move is according to basic because it doesn’t push the player edge over the house edge.
  • To prove the game is not rigged, encrypted files containing the deck are here.

Rules

  • If someone goes over 21, they go bust. If someone obtains 21 in their first two cards, they have a blackjack.
  • If a player goes bust, they lose their bet. If the dealer goes bust, every player who didn’t go bust wins.
  • All face cards are worth 10. An ace is equal to 1 or 11. When an ace is not in your hand, the total of your hand is said to be a “hard” total. When an ace is in your hand, the total of your hand is said to be a “soft” total. For example, a hand of 10/8/1 would be a hard 19 and a hand of Ace/8/1 would be a soft 20.
  • The dealer must stand on 17 or more. This includes soft 17.
  • Players are allowed to advise each-other and collude.
  • Double after splitting is allowed.
  • You may have up to four hands maximum per round.

I feel like this should be clarified slightly further, as it doesn’t directly imply the dealer is forced to hit on 16 or lower. It just says “if dealer has (exactly) 17, then dealer stands”.

Is it all played at once (i.e., do we start with 416 cards at the start of the game) or do we use a new deck every time the old deck is empty?

I understand nothing about bets. Can someone explain more about it? From what I can see, it seems the ratio thingies are way higher on the side bets, so it makes me think those are impossible.

Time to hit on 21

I’m not going to join until I get my questions answered, but I don’t think I’ll get these answered, so I guess I won’t join.

I assume it uses the basic rules of Blackjack

dealer alwazs hits below 17, but has to stop at soft 17. (some blackjack tables go with one bonus hit after 17.)
Blackjack always uses all cards mentioned, so the game starts with 416 cards, and reshuffles all 416 cards after 208 (4 decks) is used up.

as for the side bets…
those are based on which cards you (and the dealer) gets as the first 2 (and 3) cards, and you bet before the cards are drawn. (these are based basically on luck.)

as far I understand you can make side-bets only for your own cards.
