Do not know what htat is. It sounds like television and I don’t watch television
the new testament is a rashomon plot if you think about it. i wish they leaned into it more the gospels should outright contradict each other
there are so many riddles like this mathematicians are so weird
it’s a movie that’s based on a story. the story is not called rashomon and the author wrote another story that is called rashomon. i don’t know why they called the movie rashomon
I never consciously lie about anything except occasional trivial things for my own convenience
A good example being earlier at dinner my dad asked me to look something up and I didn’t want to so I just said I didn’t have my phone on me (I literally went on it 5 minutes ago)
but rashomon plot sounds cooler than “in a grove” plot
love things which have no relation to their titles, like the video game Prey (2017) which has nothing to do with Prey
Oh yeah when I say I never lie I mean I never tell made-up stories on the spot. The objective of every conversation, for me, is to say whatever progresses the conversation properly, and I have no regard whatsoever for the truth while pursuing this objective
i’m still mad they didn’t call that game Psychoshock like it was in development it would communicate what it’s actually like way better
also, PSYCHOSHOCK!!!
“Do you know where this building is”, no, but I’d rather look at the map than have you tell me, so yes. “Do you recognise me”, no, but I’m face-blind and you’re implying we’ve met before, so yes. “Are you heading to bed”, no, but I don’t particularly feel like explaining that I have a Splatoon set tonight, and I will be as functionally unavailable to you as I will be if I had gone to sleep, so yes.
but basically the gist of rashomon or “in a grove” or whatever is that there are a whole bunch of witnesses giving testimony to a murder. but all of their stories contradict each other and also give more insight into each of the other witnesses and why they might’ve lied. you’re ultimately left not really knowing what the truth is
the bible should be like this
mods are asleep post the apocrypha
there was an earlier way cooler version of christianity where there were like 50 gospels and all of them contradicted each other and they slimmed it down to the 4 most boring ones
(i say this in jest to be clear the apocryphal gospels suuck and getting rid of them was a good idea but also)
point is that the process of exegesis kinda is like a rashomon plot; of course it is, it’s related to historiography, and that’s basically how historiography goes
i’m not even studying history yet and i regularly encounter contradicting sources that make my head spin. i have encountered several different reckonings of the results of multiple 19th century french elections. i still don’t know where the idea of a Rolling Army from the wikipedia page on Eugene Francois Vidocq comes from
actually no i’m elaborating on that one
here is one of history’s most prodigious Guys. the french are actually great for getting interesting historical Guys, I should tell you about the Count De Saint Germain at some point, anyway
