i can find no credible sources for this claim except those traceable directly back to Vidoqc, but I donāt speak french., so I can hardly find many sources, can I? Iād need direct access to french-language police archives, and even then, the ones that Vidoqc himeslf hadnāt touched because he invented the French version of the FBI after doing this, apparently

my interpretation based on the nature of such grifters is that he was significantly embelishing upon a far more disorganised scam and gave it a cool name to make himself sound cool
also, I do speak a little french, and that translates as Rolling Army, not Flying Army, and I can find nowhere except wikipedia where itās translated that way

there are so many known liars about every part of this story and yet i cannot fully convince myself the whole thing isnā't a wash. maybe on some level I do want to believe there was an exceptionally tailored fake regiment of hucksters running around late 18th century France trying to trick people into thinking they were veterans

i should clarify that the āapparentlyā in this post refers to the Armee Roulante. he did found the French version of the FBI. both Jean Valjean and Javert were based on him. he did so many crimes and invented the concept of a private detective. he was genuinely a great detective but also quite often would essentially contrive crimes for himself to dramatically solve

he apparently once claimed to be Jesusās best friend, except no, he didnāt, other sources i found when i went down a rabbit hole about him like 3 years ago suggested that this was something that comedians made up because itās the kind of thing he would say, but the context for what this was a reference to is utterly lost

I could never be EST. I go to sleep at like 11:30 every night. totally incompatibale with the schedules of my favorite demographic (online weirdos). Iād miss everything. also sports games are now at a reasonable time and wonāt fuck up my sleep. I can actually watch live basketball without having to contend with the fact that i will be tired tommorow

everything is at 4/5pm now. which is wonderful. tue/th my classes end around then and i just have a weird lull period before like 7pm when everyone is actually doin stuff. i can now fill it with basketball as i do my assignments

Anyway Iām starting to have a normal person sleep schedule and itās wild to me. I havenāt woke up for anything at 8AM in years. Itās a lot easier now that I can get out of bed, get dressed, and walk straight to my destination, instead of having to budget like 30 minutes for a driveā¦ and I see the sun a ton more walking places, which helps circadian rhythms. And I do more exercise to be actually tired by midnight, and tend to talk to people in the evenings and can visibly see them head off to bed so I can feel reasonable copying them
