the videos i’ve seen of the republican conventions and that one where trump made his first public speech after the shooting felt extremely dystopian. like he has a very strong cult of personality, with all the people wearing the ear bandage in solidarity too, everyone chanting “we love trump”. it felt very surreal to watch. i think people like him because he has curated an image of strength, independence, and has made people think he can save the country by just… saying he will save the country. it’s what people want to hear, and it seems like people care very little about what he’s actually going to do to “save the country” or if his past misdeeds might mean he shouldn’t be trusted to do it. he just has charisma, and the shooting only helped him further that angle
