Before you begin this process you may want to think about the first half of hte sentence of your essay, but don’t write it yet. Take your brain and turn all of the lights off in every room, open all the windows as wide as they’ll go, and leave all the doors propped open. Then close your eyes and slowly push your brain to migrate to your hands. Then, once your brain is out of your head and in your hands, begin typing the first half of the first sentence you planned, and then do not allow yourself to stop typing, no matter what. You just have to start and end every sentence, and then keep going. Your brain in this process is completely off and dark and open, the sentences don’t have to be good, they just have to flow into one window and out of the other. The words don’t interact with anything, they just travel through, all the writing is in your hands. This is how you write an essay

Just start writing and keep on writing until you catch the momentum and finish the essay.
Once you’re done, you can go back and change things as necessary.

Writing an essay is a process of just putting words in somewhere. And you have to give the words as little resistance as possible. It is not a process you do with your mind, you turn off the lights in your head, you turn off all the appliances in your head, don’t let them do anything, don’t let them think about the quality. Don’t allow any filters to exist. You want to have a solid block of marble on the page, a first draft is a marble block. All the words you could want to say, but in the wrong order, and not shaped all elegant.
And then you go back with a chisel and do a rough pass at making it a thing, like you carve out the structures, the general shape, you get a better understanding of what size each chunk is and what order they should go in, and then after that you can do all the fine details. You’re making a kind of statue.
