there aren’t actually reassignment clinics

oh also this part is. fellas

I don’t know what they’re called

dedicated gender clinics do not actually provide services such as hormone therapy or affirming surgery, they solely exist in order to ritually humiliate trans people to make sure they’re really trans

you go to a gender identity clinic in the UK, and they legally have to ask you a large number of extremely invasive questions, and then someone you’ve never seen judges if your responses make you really trans or not based on arcane criteria. unless you go private, it’s highly likely that one of those criteria is being heterosexual

oh damn

then, they don’t actually give you the hormones or handle any of the actual treatment, becasue they don’t have any medical expertise in that field. they solely exist to gatekeep, to judge, to reduce the numbers of trans people

Signing up was a mistake.

gender identity clinics, in the US and UK, are entirely unnecessary and could be replaced by a model of heavily informed consent with literally zero downsides. this is pretty much apolitical because there are absolutely no benefits to the current system unless you believe a trans population is only acceptable if kept as small as possilble, which nobody should fucking think

You need to know 3 when you’re starting out, and the rest are just incidental fun bonuses.

  1. Riichi (closed hand, meaning you make no calls, and you press the riichi button when it shows up)
  2. Yakuhai/value honours (a triplet/pon of the red, green, or white dragons, or of the prevalent wind [usually east, it’s in the middle of the table], or of your seat wind, which is the wind marked in front of you)
  3. All simples/tanyao (only 2-8 of number tiles, meaning no 1s, 9s, or word tiles)

All the rest are fun bonuses

Robbing a kan is the funniest shit ever and you see it like once every 3 months

you need psychiatric approval in the US as well but it’s nowhere near as bad as in the UK
