Most of us were under occupation under the ottoman empire between the 14th and 20th century. Then we were “liberated” by russia only to then fall under USSR’s iron curtain. We havent had as much time to develop as imperial unexploited countries
For my country specifically we’ve been free from the ottomans for only about 120 years. Communism fell in 1989 which is when we started transitioning to democracy
