I remember why I kept getting bored of Civ against AI. It’s dumb as fuck. I’m on Deity and I literally still don’t even have to bother, like, building defensive walls or an army ahead of time. I was vaguely punished the one time the AI was like “holy shit they’re completely undefended” however they only managed to take one of my cities and I immediately took it back via loyalty. So like what gives

Cause you don’t evne have to have any kind of military superiority you can just trick them into thinking you do. I just produced a bunch of the highest-level unit I had to inflate my “military strength score” and they were 100% willing to surrender even before I actually had the capability to actually, kill their guys

During Civ 5 development, they actually developed very competent AI, but late game turns were taking minutes. They decided instead to keep the AI itself very simple to keep turns short, and just let them cheat at higher difficulties.
