Ophelia shifts her head. She looks alarmed.
And looks around the room. Everyone else is strangely calm.
“I think what would be an excellent idea, is to make sure that all the birds you sent to the count region are still alive - and keep track of how many aren’t. I think keeping records like that is important.”
He meets the Count’s gaze calmly.
“I’ve already sworn to the Ninth. I will help the commoners. As a nobleman, my life is dedicated to their servitude.”
Joe shrugs. “Them too, but nobody hurts squirrels.”
“I will be sure to inform Baron Marzipan of your suggestion,” Joe nods.

(augustin is just a normal noble who has nothing he is hiding, clearly)
She jitters her head back and forth, before resetting her view. Maybe laughing maniacally is normal for some people, and it’s rude to talk about. That must be it.
She snaps her head over. Only forty or so seconds have passed. It’s still okay to respond. “Oh! Sorry!”
“I was… lost in thought.” Hm. “Of course! I finished them all years ago. I don’t have… too many… though.”
Somewhere, the Spymaster and the Chancellor are meeting with King Litten.
Spymaster: Have you heard of the Gaunt, Litten?
“The Gaunt? I’m afraid I haven’t heard of that before. Is it something to do with the nobles scheming against me?”
Spymaster: No, sir. It’s actually another nation scheming against you. The Gaunt is some kind of elite spy network setup by another nation.
(i cant believe we’re about to be james bonded)
“Ah, great, my fears were justified of needing to have a better military. Which nation is conspiring against us this time?”
(The gaunt could be any of the nobles!)
(puls out my watch that has a gun in it)
Spymaster: We believe it’s Tavallain, a nation that recently gained independence from Ashmede.
Chancellor: There’s no reason to suspect any of our nobles, yes?
Spymaster: No, but they probably have spies within our military. I believe it wise to take preventative measures against recruitment, or at least against their operations.
Chancellor: But we can only do so with Council approval. Litten, do you want to bring this to the Council?
Spymaster: If you do, it could jeopardize our secrecy in this regard. I don’t recommend it.
(tbh i was half expecting you to pull a forum mafia on us lmao)
“What options are there if we don’t bring it to the council? As much as I complain about them - they are the ones who make things happen. I don’t have much power without them.”
