Maybot’s Combinatorics Mafia
Hosted by @May and @Zugzwang on @Maybot, reviewed by @Luka.
Combinatorics Mafia was designed by Nintor of Nintendo Loop. You can find an example of this setup in play on this site in Kittens Game: Combinatorics Mafia.
In this mafia variant, there are no deaths or eliminations. Instead, both factions face a symmetrical combinatoric challenge. The town must locate the mafia, and the mafia must avoid this and locate a group of masons.
-
During the day phase, players vote on who to send to jail for the night. At the end of the day, the three players with the most votes will be sent to jail, and a public announcement will reveal how many of them are mafia.
-
During the night phase, the mafia may select three players to beam. At the end of the night, a public announcement will reveal how many beamed players were masons (but not who was beamed).
-
If all three mafia players are sent to jail at once, town will win. If all three masons are beamed at once, the town will have one last day phase to identify the mafia. If they fail, the mafia will win.
Rules
-
Follow the Forum Game Rules. (This includes: no excessive AtE, no personal attacks, no angleshooting, et cetera.)
-
You must meet the minimum of 10 posts every day phase or be replaced (this rule will be waived for mechanically outed evils).
-
Due to the nature of this game, some players may become unkillable outed evils. Attempts to disrupt game conversation via spam are against the rules.
Mechanics
Standard Mechanics
-
Day phases will last 48 hours, night phases will last 24 hours. Night actions will lock one hour before the end of the phase.
-
The mafia and the masons may both communicate privately on Discord at all times.
-
Flavour is not alignment indicative.
-
If a tie is reached, a random player from within the tie will be selected to be jailed.
-
Once the mafia have already guessed the masons, meaning town must vote correctly or lose, votes will not be locked, but at the end of the day, if the mafia could swap their votes to win, they will be automatically assumed to do so. If there is a tie for who to jail even after the swap, the mafia will win the game.
Special Mechanics
-
During the day, everybody votes on three players to send to jail for the night. At the end of the day, it will be revealed how many of these three players were mafia.
-
Each player may vote for up to three different players. Players may also vote for “no prisoner” up to three times; if an instance of “no prisoner” is in the top three votes, no player will be sent to jail in that spot. There is no hammer.
-
During the night, the mafia select three players to beam. At the end of the night, a public announcement will reveal how many beamed players were masons (but not who was beamed).
Maybot
This game will be run using an experimental automated hosting bot designed by May. Maybot will be handling all game actions, including sending out rolecards, posting votecounts, and starting/ending days. If there are ever any delays with game processing, please contact the hosts.
The way that Maybot resolves ambiguous votes (e.g. voting for ‘M’ when both Maybot and May are in the game) is slightly different from how the built-in VC plugin resolves them. Maybot will always resolve such votes to the last matching player in the playerlist.
The built-in VC will also allow you to place more than the maximum number of legal votes; Maybot will remove any such votes before the end of the day. Misspelled votes which are not substrings of a player username will not be resolved to their intended target.
Please be careful to avoid misspelling names or making ambiguous/illegal votes, and keep in mind that the resolution of votes is not final until the bot has posted a VC.
For ease of processing, mafia night actions will be handled through voting on an on-site PM. Actions must be submitted to the PM, and not to Discord by the end of the night.
Spectating
Like last game, spectators this game may choose to be uninformed, informed, or semi-informed. Semi-informed spectators will be divided into “town” and “mafia” and will get to “play along” with their own beams and jails, which will be revealed only to spectator chat. Whichever semi-informed team wins first gets to be praised for their excellence. This will have no impact on the game itself whatsoever, it is just for fun.

Playerlist
For the first 24 hours that signups are open, users who played in Kittens Game: Combinatorics Mafia will be placed on low-priority signups, as the last game filled very quickly and we would like to give new players the chance to join.
Once 24 hours have passed, low-priority signups will be added to the playerlist in the order that they joined.
